Template Checker

Score an email against the SendCanyon spam filter and content rules before you send it, see exactly what each rule flagged, and fix it with SpirenAI.

3 min read

The template checker scores one email without sending it. Paste the copy as plain text or HTML, load a step from a sequence template, or upload an .eml file exported from your mail client. Every check is saved to Deliverability → Template checker → History.

What Is Checked

  • Spam filter score — the message is scored by the SendCanyon spam filter. A pasted template is first built into the same MIME message a campaign send produces (an HTML body also gets its plain-text part); an .eml is scored exactly as uploaded, headers included. You see the score, the threshold and every rule it triggered. If the spam filter cannot be reached, the check says so and is never given a made-up score.
  • Subject line — presence, length, capitals, repeated punctuation, emoji, spacing, a fake Re: or Fwd: prefix, and spam-trigger phrases.
  • Body copy — spam-trigger phrases from a list SendCanyon staff maintain, money and pressure wording, shouting in capitals, exclamation marks, emoji, deliberately misspelt trigger words, and length.
  • Links and images — link shorteners, bare IP addresses, redirects, insecure links, link text that names a different domain, too many links or domains, image-only messages, missing alt text, embedded and tracking images.
  • HTML — structure, hidden text, scripts and forms, external stylesheets, comments, size, and (for an .eml) whether a matching plain-text part is included.
  • Personalisation — merge fields written as {{first_name}} or with a default as {{first_name|there}}, malformed fields, and placeholders in another tool's format. SendCanyon sends spintax such as {Hi|Hello} exactly as written, so spintax fails the check.
  • Compliance — a From address on a free mailbox provider, the From name, Reply-To, attachments, and whether the recipient has a way to opt out.

How The Score Works

The score starts at 100 and each failed or warning check deducts its weight. A spam filter score at or over the threshold deducts 45 points; below the threshold the deduction grows with how close it came. Grades: Excellent from 90, Good from 75, Fair from 50, otherwise Poor. A message is Ready to send when no check failed and its spam filter score is below the threshold.

Help Me Fix It

When a check fails or warns, Help me fix it asks SpirenAI to rewrite only the flagged parts, keeping your merge fields, link URLs, HTML structure and signature, and never adding claims that are not already in the email. Each suggested edit shows the original text and its replacement: apply them one at a time or apply the full rewrite, then re-check. An edit that would drop a merge field or a link is not offered. Each request uses one AI credit.

History, Re-checks And Allowance

  • History can be searched by name, subject and sender, filtered by grade, ready state, format, who ran it and date, sorted by score, name or date, and exported as CSV. Your column and rows-per-page choices are remembered.
  • Opening a check shows its full results. Re-check scores the same message again as a new check, so you can compare; Edit a copy opens it in the editor.
  • Each check and re-check counts toward your plan's monthly template check allowance. Deleting a check removes it from history but does not give the run back.

API

Run a check with an API key: POST /api/v1/template-checks with format (text, html or eml), from_name, from_email, subject and body, or eml_base64 for an .eml. GET /api/v1/template-checks lists past checks and GET /api/v1/template-checks/{id} returns one with every check result and the spam filter rules triggered.
